The Definition of Wealth
I'm often intrigued by what it is that motivates people in life.
What drives entrepreneurs to achieve great success?
Generally, most tend to think that it's the accumulation of wealth.
And in some cases, it is ... at least for a short time until the individual inevitably realizes that, actually, it's not that at all.
In fact, most enlightened entrepreneurs, on achieving an accumulation of wealth, start to give their gains away!
Honestly. And with startling consistency.
It's usually the ones that cling on to all their wealth that lose their way, and experience a joyless existence.
You see accumulating wealth is a good motivator but giving away accumulated wealth is even better!
There's something about being altruistic that lightens the soul and gives real meaning to life.
But the true wisdom of wealth is that it's not possessions or material items that make us wealthy.
Satish Kumar says:
'The definition of being rich is not that you possess vast quantities of objects and goods, but rather you are rich when you know that you do not need any more.'
True wealth lies in experience ... of being able to live a full and meaningful life.
For me, at least, that is the true definition of wealth.
