The other day, I read an interesting article about two scientists. One is a household name ... the genius that is Einstein; and the other ... a British scientist, who is perhaps lesser known but no less significant, called Eddington. What struck me about these two men was their passion for living a truthful life and one that could ultimately benefit others. Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington was a British Astro-Physicist who, amongst many other achievements, helped clarify Albert Einstein's theory of general relativity. Born in Kendal in the UK, on the 28th December 1882, Eddington grew up as a Quaker – a peace-loving man of good morals and great compassion for his fellow humans. While at Cambridge, Eddington closely followed Einstein's work. But, as Einstein was based in Germany for a while, the war years meant that communication between the two scientists was difficult. Both men were campaigners for peace and believed that the greater cause of science ... to help human-kind rather than destroy it ... transcended war and the restrictions that war caused. They strongly believed that all scientists –regardless of their nationalities – should work together for common good. Both men, though very different in character, stood proudly for what they believed in and lived their lives following their truth, despite often facing adversity or pressure to change. Ultimately, they represent what is good for science and humanity and are shining examples for those of us seeking inspiration to live authentically. You see, there are times when you have to stand up for what you believe in ... you must always be true to yourself. Why? Well, if you're not true to yourself then you're living a lie. And living a lie is uncomfortable and pointless. Being true to your self means that you live authentically – with purpose and meaning. Doing so means that you can reach your fullest potential, and shine like the star that you truly are. So, look within and ask yourself ... 'Am I being true to myself?' Ask: 'Am I living a meaningful life?' If not, resolve how you can change it so that you are. Believe ... you really can make a difference! Let me leave you with one of Einstein's quotes: 'Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole strength and soul can be a true master. For this reason mastery demands all of a person.' Have an inspiring day! Labels: history, inspiration, quotes, self-development
The economy is in a dire condition. Most people have figured that out by now. But don't lose hope. There's always a way to beat the system! Earlier this week, I read a great little guide to earning big cash by exploiting a little-known UK housing loophole. And it works especially well during recession time! It enables you to practically claim free homes throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It was written by a good friend of mine, and only JUST released. So I thought I'd give him a little plug here on the blog: http://www.propertycrashprofits.net/ Check it out if you're interested - especially if you live in the UK. (PS. If you're an online business type, then you might also wish to purchase the resell [or even MASTER resell] rights to this product. Check out www.propertycrashcash.com !) Labels: recommendations
As often as possible, I make a wish and I dedicate it to something or someone else. I spend a spare moment sending out wishes to bring about healing, solutions, joy and love ... whatever is needed, no matter where in the world. Every time I make a wish, I feel as though I'm sending out a bubble of good intention ... something positive and filled with hope and love. It may not seem like much ... it may not seem very practical. Often, it seems that there's not a lot we can do to help where help is needed – perhaps because the situation is too far away or our own circumstances prevent us from being able to do more. Yet, sending out a wish ... a bubble of positive intention, love and joy ... sets an intent in your life that has more power than it originally seems. A heart-felt wish can make a difference. Try it! But be careful what you wish for. It might just come true! Labels: inspiration

I was recently chatting with friends and the conversation, for some reason or another, turned to the subject of fear. A question was posed: What are we most afraid of? There was an icy silence. No one really wanted to admit their deepest, darkest fears. To do so would be like letting loose a raging bull. It definitely seemed to be a taboo area, and the conversation quickly moved on to something else. But it got me thinking. Why do we generally try to suppress our fears? Is it because by voicing our fears we think we may be ridiculed or are we worried that we will be perceived as being weak? Everyone has something that they are either a little bit afraid of or are totally freaked out by. Fear is, after all, a natural instinctive response. But, it's how we react to fear ... as well as the 'thing' we fear ... that can make a difference between being held hostage to fear and being free. Fear holds us back. It can stop us from reaching our full potential. So, it's important to face our fears ... to acknowledge our response and analyse what has created the fear. Doing so enables us to stand back and look at this fearsome thing as if from a distance. Often, we quickly realize that what we fear has no real impact at all. It isn't the great big frightening threat that we thought it was. Facing your fears enables you to change how you think and feel. By changing your response, fear no longer has you in its control. So, take a look inside ... what do you fear? What's holding you back? Acknowledge what you fear ... change your response ... then let go. Have a fearless day! Labels: inspiration, self-development
I've been immersing myself in 80's music this weekend. And feeling wonderful as a result! Music has an amazing potential to change your mood. 'Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.' - Joseph Campbell I don't know about you, but I find there are times when life seems to throw every possible challenge or obstacle my way. 'Why me? ... What have I done to deserve all this?' ... are the first thoughts that spring to mind. Of course, the more we push ourselves out of our cosy comfort zones to achieve the things we want out of life, the more challenges and obstacles we face. That's just the way it is. Now that's not a bad thing. It's all experience and if getting to where you want to go is a bit of a bumpy ride for a while, then so be it. But it doesn't mean that the journey has to be painful. To make sure that the weight of the challenges and obstacles don't flatten me, I am mindful of the space inside me that is always full of joy and light. No matter how heavy and dark things might get on the outside, this place is safe and secure. It provides a sanctuary ... which always radiates happiness, love and contentment ... and I can go there whenever I choose. Creating an inner sanctuary of peace, joy and light is easy to do. Simply spend some time each day visualizing this special place within, and sit your consciousness in there for a while. Empty your mind of all the cluttered thoughts and outside influences, and just 'be'. If you find that difficult to do, then join a meditation class until you've mastered the basics. Once you have created your inner sanctuary, absolutely nothing can disturb this place of peace and joy. This space belongs to you! And it's worth far more than any physical place you might own. So, if you haven't created a sanctuary within, do so today. Spend some time there – especially when life becomes too much. You'll soon find that your inner joy will burn away the pain. 'Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were only walls' - Joseph Campbell You've probably realized by now that I'm a huge fan of Joseph Campbell. Not a day goes by without one of Joseph's wisdoms providing inspiration. He was a real smart cookie. Well, I thought I'd take this opportunity (for those who aren't familiar with the great man) to introduce you to Joseph Campbell. Born in New York, USA on March 26 1904, Joseph John Campbell grew up to become a renowned mythology professor, writer and lecturer, particularly known for his work in mythology and the hero in relation to the human experience. As a child, Campbell was fascinated with Native American culture, society and mythology. It's this profound interest in Native American life that resulted in his lifelong passion for myth and the hero story and its connections to the way we live our lives today. His vast works, which include The Masks of God and The Hero with a Thousand Faces covers mythology from around the world, from ancient to modern. He coined the phrase 'Follow Your Bliss' amongst many others and his works have gone on to greatly inspire people throughout the world on all levels. Campbell died on October 30 1987. Later in 1991, his widow Jean Erdman established the Joseph Campbell Foundation alongside Robert Walter, who was Campbell's friend and editor. The foundation exists to preserve and perpetuate Campbell's work. His philosophy, which relates to the hero journey that we take in life, has touched the lives of film-makers, authors, entrepreneurs and those who are eagerly 'following their bliss'. In his works and profound wisdom, he has left us with a legacy of simple truths – that we can all rise to the challenge of our own particular adventures ... that by facing our fears, we can go on to find our bliss. Let me leave you with another popular quote of Campbell's ... 'Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning.' Simple and profound. If you find the opportunity to read more about Joseph Campbell's philosophy, you'll find it full of insights. I can highly recommend! So, what are you waiting for? Go now and follow your bliss! Have a WONDERFUL day! Labels: self-development
Yesterday, I wrote saying... "F**k it!" My post was all about reminding you to let go of "bad emotions" in your life. So often we end up clinging onto grief, fear, anger, jealousy, past experiences - and fail to realize we can simply let them go and be happy! Today, I'd like to recommend a course you will LOVE. I've recently helped polish up a wonderful book and audio CD course called "Happiness Now." It's all about the art of releasing, of "letting go," of discovering your happiness - and the course includes an audio introduction from myself, alongside a couple of my own interviews. In my mind, releasing - "letting go" of emotions - is perhaps the most important skill in self-development. Yet how many people TRULY understand it? The "Happiness Now" course will show you the way. Here's the link to learn more. I highly recommend it: http://www.happiness.fm/ (And use this link to purchase, for a $30 discount.) Check it out. It comes with a money-back guarantee too, so you can see whether it's any good for you without risking a penny. But I know you'll love it. Well, that's all for now. TGIF - Have a great weekend! (PS. An hour ago, I walked up the stairs to my little pad. On the way, I passed a pleasant young lady from London - freshly installed in the apartment below. She was unloading a mass of shopping, following a recent trip to London. Honestly. She had bags galore. Crazy. I chatted for a few moments, then scurried off to my own abode. Then I realized: "Crap, forgot to offer her a hand!" Sensitive Karl, of course - but I didn't make the offer. A bit rude of me. Left her struggling there. Not so gentlemanly. But rather than worry myself about it, as some sensitive souls might, instead I just said: "F**k it!" You know, in his book of the same name, John C. Parkin compares that popular Western phrase with the Eastern philosophy of detachment. That is, saying "F**k it!" is the art of learning to "let go" of problems and worries, to release on emotions, to drop attachments and aversions. It's the quick version of releasing. Despite it's apparent immaturity, saying "F**k it!" to more of life's problems can really help you to release stress - and achieve a much greater state of enlightenment. It sounds anything but spiritual, I agree. But there's a very definite truth behind this wisdom. Sometimes you just need to "let go" - rather than letting limiting thoughts hold you back. It's about releasing your emotions, rather than releasing yourself responsibility. So - what in your life would YOU love to say "F**K IT!" to - RIGHT NOW? And - as an experiment - why not just try it? Learn more about John Parkin's book by clicking here. Labels: inspiration, self-development

There's a well-worn saying that goes something like... "Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always got." That's brilliant if what you've done has rewarded you with happiness and fulfilment. But, if doing what you've always done doesn't make you happy then maybe it's time to change. Change should be a simple decision to make. But often it isn't. Many people are creatures of habit. They see change as being something to be resisted at all costs because it is uncomfortable, unsettling and even frightening. Some will even stubbornly stay in a situation that makes them unhappy simply because the prospect of change – even if it's for the better – is too much to contemplate. Sadly, that's true! Change can be easier said than done – even when you know in your heart that it's the right move to make. If you find yourself on the precipice of change - if you know that you really do have to do something different so that you can have a different outcome – you have to start looking at change from a positive viewpoint. And that means breaking down the barriers that are holding you back. It means figuring out why 'change' is such a big deal and then overwriting the old, redundant view of 'change' and replacing it with a positive outlook. When you start to embrace change, and believe that change will bring new opportunities, your life begins to transform. It really is amazing! So, ask yourself: Am I doing what I've always done and getting what I've always got? If so, am I happy with that? If not, then commit to change. You deserve to be happy - so make your life just so you are! Labels: inspiration, self-development

Have you ever said something by mistake that has left you feeling distraught and angry at yourself? Do you cringe at the faux pas you made at a party or in a business meeting? Don't worry, you're not alone! I've been there ... and if there's a t-shirt that says "Ooops ... I shouldn't have said that!" ... then I've got several ... and in different colours too! We can all say something without thinking and then agonize over it for hours or more afterwards ... worried that we've made a fool of ourselves ... worried that we may have unintentionally hurt someone's feelings ... worried what other people thought of our stupid comments. But if there's one thing I've learned, it's don't beat yourself up over something you've said by mistake. There's no point! More often than not, other people will have forgotten what you said ... it may not have even registered with them at all. And if it was a serious faux pas, then a simple, heartfelt apology will put things right. It's only you that's holding on to the mistake so let it go ... in fact, laugh it away. Words only mean something if there's real intention and purpose behind them. If you didn't mean what you said, then the words have no substance. So, let go! Make light of it. And feel the weight lift from your shoulders. There ... don't you just feel better already? Labels: inspiration
Do you ever have one of those days where you think everything is impossible? On those days, do you find yourself thinking what difference can 'little old me' make to the world at large? You know, I occasionally have those days too. Something happens that challenges my serenity ... and, suddenly, I can feel a little lost and forget just how much difference I can really make. When that happens, I remind myself of the power of One Action. It goes something like this ... One step starts a journey One voice can inspire a nation One sun lights up the world One smile can lead to friendship One road leads to another One kindness can change many lives One thought can awaken a dream One intention can lead to great action One person CAN make a difference. One is, without doubt, a very powerful number. And it only takes one thought, one gesture, one action to make a real difference in the world. So, the next time self-doubt creeps in, treat it with the power of One Action. YOU really CAN make a difference! Labels: inspiration, recommendations

Yesterday I was in town and decided to visit a coffee bar. There was a magazine on the table, and an article caught my eye titled: "Secrets of Success!" The article was a series of interviews with some of the country's top entrepreneurs, and it proved quite a fascinating read. What was clear from the people featured in the article was that they had all experienced failure before becoming successful. In some cases, they had failed big time – often ending up with absolutely nothing before building up the successful businesses that they have today. What's also interesting is that most mentioned that without experiencing failure, they wouldn't be the successful figures that they are now. It turned out to be quite an inspiring coffee break. As I see it, failure is simply experience. But it's also so much more! When something doesn't work out, it presents an opportunity to learn from that experience. And in the failure are the clues for success – ways to do something bigger and better next time round! So, if you're experiencing failure in some part of your life right now, acknowledge it as experience and look for those clues that can make you more successful next time. And think on ... The only people who do not fail are those that aren't doing anything! It's true! So, if the going is tough at the moment, grab some extra inspiration by watching this video: (Visit www.karlblog.com to view the video.) Remember - you're not failing - just experiencing! Have a positive day! Labels: inspiration, self-development

Struggling with your New Year diet? Need to lose a few extra pounds? At the request of many friends and readers, last year I slapped together details of the "Karl Moore diet plan" I've been following the past couple of months. Now, I'm going to tell you something. This plan works. It involves a few changes to your eating habits... a little moderate exercise... and one *really fun* day every week... But it has not only reduced my high blood pressure back down to normal rates, it's also taken me from a 34" waist right down to a very slim 30". Goodbye belly. A number of individuals have asked how it works - so in the spirit of my friend, Rebecca Marina, who always shares her great dieting tips with readers - here are my 10 simple rules. The Karl Moore Diet: Rule 1: Absolutely NO bread, potatoes, paste, rice or wraps. Adios, white carbs. Rule 2: Don't be stupid. Cut out "bad" foods like chocolate and crisps. Rule 3: Enjoy SIMPLE meals. Fish, vegetables, some light meats. Typical dishes for me: smoked salmon with dill sauce... a simple kitchen salad... grilled chicken breast... Rule 4: Allow yourself unlimited mushy peas! Low in fat, low in energy density, high in fibre and protein, these are the secret to a great diet. Mix with a tablespoon of mint sauce to add Yorkshire flavour. One tin constitutes a meal. Rule 5: Eat so that hunger is removed, but NOT so that you feel full. (This, incidentally, is the secret to living beyond 100!) Get out of the emotion and habitual cravings for food we all have. This is CRITICAL! Are you REALLY hungry? Make sure first! Rule 6: Do not limit yourself on "special foods." For example, I don't limit the amount of salad cream I put on salads... or the amount of alcohol I drink. I am NOT a traditional calorie counter! Rule 7: DRINK lots of water. Especially sugar-free flavoured water. Rule 8: Take MULTI-VITAMINS every single day, to ensure you get enough of everything. I usually take a couple just to make sure. Rule 9: Start WALKING MORE. And make it consistent. I currently walk for 40 to 60 minutes every single day. That's 3-4 miles. Find a nice route (I live in the city and walk out to the countryside), get an iPod, breathe deeply with every few steps - and just do it. Every day. STICK to it! Rule 10: ONCE A WEEK... SPLURGE OUT! Purposefully OVERLOAD on calories to ensure that your metabolism doesn't slow down and your body "get used" to less food. Every Saturday, I overload on Snickers, chip butties, chocolate, and all the things I do NOT eat during the week. Including bread and everything else. It makes a GREAT CHANGE... and helps you lose even MORE weight! (Splurging is actually quite hard as first. Forget the guilt - and lap it up!) * * * Now, remember - I'm not a physician, so consult your doctor before undertaking any new diet regime. However it works for me - and I've seen dramatic results - without feeling that I've "suffered" or felt hungry at any point. I'd be interested in feedback from any nutritionists that may be reading. But give it a go - and I look forward to hearing your success stories! :) (PS. REMINDER... I'm now on Twitter. Follow me at http://twitter.com/karlmoore/) (PPS. Well, it's that time of year again. I've officially donned the pinny and am doing a little spring cleaning on the blog. You'll see a small face-lift on the site over the coming days, but here's an overview of what's to come. Firstly, I'm on Twitter! Follow me at http://twitter.com/karlmoore/ If you know what it is, you know what to do. Secondly, I'm shifting to a better e-mail subscriber system. I have over 3000+ individuals subscribed via Google Groups to receive e-mail. But it's not that hot, to be honest. I'm not using FeedBurner. This service collates all of my posts from single day (if any), and sends them out by e-mail. They also look way better than the Google e-mail messages. I encourage you to subscribe by e-mail by clicking here. Then unsubscribe from your Google Groups subscription. Finally, are YOU subscribing via RSS yet? If not, then it's about time you did. Again, I'm centralizing using FeedBurner, so subscribe using this RSS link: http://feeds.feedburner.com/KarlBlog That's all. Thank you gang! :) Labels: blog stuff
Do you ever have those days... Those days where you throw your hands up in frustration and wonder why your dream plan isn't happening quickly enough? I know I have before now. Despite all your best efforts, time, energy and enthusiasm, it seems that your ambitions aren't materializing. You may even feel as though you're still standing at the starting gates. Yet some dreams take time to manifest. And this is where patience and persistence is needed. So many people give up ... just when they are on the brink of success ... simply because they didn't have the patience or persistence. Imagine ... all that work, effort, energy, sweat and tears just pushed aside. What a waste! Giving up, of course, is always an option ... but is that what you really want to do? Often, the only way is to push forward. Practice patience and be completely determined. Visualize your success. Eventually, your plan will grow and start to produce results. Take a look at this video: (Visit www.karlblog.com to view video.) Remember ... some things take time to grow. So have patience and persistence. Keep nurturing your dreams! When I wake to start a new day, the first thing I do is look what time it is. I'm not alone. Millions of people peep through sleepy eyes to see whether it's time to get up, or are rudely awakened by their alarm clock, every single day. But our relationship with time doesn't stop there. Our whole day is often scheduled into slots of time, from breakfast through to lunch and on to the evening meal, and all the activities that fit in between. We make time for work, rest and play. We say we'll find time to do all those chores that we're not too keen on doing, but need to be done ... Yes, you know exactly what I mean! We squeeze out as much time as possible for all those activities that we can't comfortably fit into our day. Often, we are pre-occupied with thinking about the past and future, usually at the expense of the 'here and now'. We sometimes let time run away ... often when we're doing something that we truly enjoy. Of course, we know that time can sometimes pass slowly ... when we are eagerly awaiting something or when we're in pain. Occasionally, it feels like we have to wait forever for something that we desperately want. It's pretty clear that we live in a time-obsessed society and time, for the most part, governs our lives. So, imagine spending a day without the confines of time-keeping. Yes, really! It CAN be done! Discard your watch, or any other device that displays the passing of time, and take off somewhere into the countryside, hills or coast, where you can spend the day walking and connecting with nature. Take some food and drink, and simply have your 'lunch' break when you feel ready to do so. If you're a bit of a clock-watcher and are generally ruled by time, it may feel strange, at first, not knowing what time it is at any given moment. Just go with the flow and enjoy a timeless day. This is something I like to do whenever I can, and it makes you more aware of being fully alive in 'the moment'. Although time gives a sense of structure to our day-to-day lives, it's only when you experience a timeless day that you feel truly free. Believe me! It's completely liberating! Try it! It could be exactly what you need right now! Labels: inspiration
Well, it's coming up to that time again. A New Year ahead and all thoughts turn to how we can do better, make a real difference and enjoy life to the full. For some, a New Year signals a new start. Resolutions are made and January starts with all good intentions. But we all know - from experience - that some of the promises and resolutions we make soon bite the dust. As I see it, resolutions fail because we don't fully connect with the commitment we've made or because we set ourselves unrealistic goals. It's usually the latter that creates the most problems. When we set ourselves impossible targets, the pressure of keeping up with the commitment can become far too much to bear. Inevitably, the resolution fails to materialize. So for this New Year, keep the big ambition in sight, but set yourself smaller, manageable goals. Let me give you an example. Perhaps you want to lose 20lbs in weight. Rather than focusing on the 20lbs, aim instead to lose a couple of pounds per week or fortnight. Work out a doable plan of action for doing just that. Even allow for a motivational treat every week to keep you on target. This really does work! Before you know it, you'll have reached your main goal of losing 20lbs. (Read this article for more: http://www.karlblog.com/2008/10/power-of-small-consistent-steps.html) Give it a go! And whatever promises you make for the New Year, don't forget to have fun as you go along. May I wish you a joyful and beautiful New Year! I hope it is full of love, adventure and brilliant times ahead. Labels: christmas, inspiration, self-development
