I recently read a newspaper article... ... About a man who chose to live out his life alone in a caravan in some remote corner of the world. You can't help but think what a terribly lonely existence, not having anyone else for company. The journalist interviewing him, many years into his self-imposed retreat, asked him how he coped with loneliness. His reply was that because he was at peace with himself, he never felt lonely. He said that his life was full of joy. He was self-sufficient. And he enjoyed his own company. It wasn't that he disliked being around other people and he hadn't previously experienced anything that made him want to run to the hills. He just simply wanted to live quietly ... doing his own thing ... and that was what he was doing. Mark Twain once said: 'The worst loneliness is to not be comfortable with yourself'. There are people who are surrounded by family and friends but who still feel terribly lonely because they are not at peace with themselves. It makes you realize that you must first befriend yourself ... be at peace with yourself ... love yourself with an open heart ... before you can ever really be at peace with life itself. So my question today is... How comfortable are you with yourself? If you're not at peace, what can you do to change it? How can you become your own best friend? Take some time out. Get to know yourself better. You could really start to like the unique person that you are! Sponsor this blog: Tried Centerpointe? I'm often intrigued by what it is that motivates people in life. What drives entrepreneurs to achieve great success? Generally, most tend to think that it's the accumulation of wealth. And in some cases, it is ... at least for a short time until the individual inevitably realizes that, actually, it's not that at all. In fact, most enlightened entrepreneurs, on achieving an accumulation of wealth, start to give their gains away! Honestly. And with startling consistency. It's usually the ones that cling on to all their wealth that lose their way, and experience a joyless existence. You see accumulating wealth is a good motivator but giving away accumulated wealth is even better! There's something about being altruistic that lightens the soul and gives real meaning to life. But the true wisdom of wealth is that it's not possessions or material items that make us wealthy. Satish Kumar says: 'The definition of being rich is not that you possess vast quantities of objects and goods, but rather you are rich when you know that you do not need any more.' True wealth lies in experience ... of being able to live a full and meaningful life. For me, at least, that is the true definition of wealth. Sponsor this blog: Uncover the Quantum Cookbook! Today, I thought I'd share this old Japanese folk story with you. You may have already come across this one before, but I think a little reminder every now and again is good for the soul. So, let me start at the beginning... Many years ago, in a beautiful Japanese village, there was a House of 1000 mirrors. A happy, little dog was intrigued by this place and decided to visit. On his arrival, he scampered up to the house excitedly and entered a room. His ears lifted up and his tail started wagging. To his surprise, he found himself staring at 1000 other happy little dogs with their tails wagging excitedly just like his. He smiled, and 1000 other happy little dogs smiled back. As he left, he thought to himself: "This is a wonderful place. I will come back and visit often." Shortly after, another little dog visited the house, but he was not quite as happy as the first one. He slowly entered the room, looking miserable with his head hung low. When he saw 1000 unfriendly looking dogs staring back at him, he showed his teeth and started to growl. What he saw was 1000 unhappy little dogs growling fiercely back at him. As he left, he thought to himself: "That is a horrible place, and I will never go back there again." I love this story! You see, in my experience, every face in the world is a mirror of your own. So, the question is ... what kind of reflection do you see in the face of the person you meet today? That person may come to you feeling pretty low ... but your smile might just put a smile on their face as well as placing warmth in their heart. Make it a friendly day! Some might say that we're in "desperate need" of a miracle or two these days. I, however, think that miracles are already happening all of the time. Not supernatural stuff that defies the laws of nature. Or anything that might be considered biblical in proportion. But simple, everyday miracles. As I see it, the real miracle is that we are here at all. Life is a miracle. We are a miracle! And, no matter what your beliefs, small but no less significant miracles do happen every single moment. They really do. So don't forget ... Have a miraculous day! Sponsor this blog: Discover how to change your life, using the power of Neuro-Linguistic Programming! If you've followed my blog for a while, you know that kindness features in a lot in my posts. I greatly believe in practising random acts of kindness and I encourage others to 'pay it forward' as often as possible. You see, offering a kindness – especially if it's random and anonymously done – can make a real difference in the world. It really can change one or more lives! And, incredibly, offering just a little kindness only costs us a bit of time and consideration ... yes, that's all! A little kindness really can go a long way. The ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao-Tse once said: 'Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profundity. Kindness in giving creates love.' When we practise a kindness, we send out so much that is good into the world. We also gain something back ... a wonderful sense of love and fulfilment. So, whatever you are doing today, practise kindness. Do something for someone else and I promise you that you'll feel on top of the world! Sponsor this blog: Discover how to look 30 years younger! I absolutely love what I do. I enjoy my work immensely and it takes up a large part of my life. But, you know what? Although I truly love my work, I enjoy giving even more! Winston Churchill once said: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." I really can't agree more! Giving ... whether it's a little of your time, expertise, support, funds or love ... is the most fulfilling act you can do. It makes you feel more alive. Trust me ... it really does! So, perhaps today, ask yourself what it is you can give that might make a difference to someone somewhere. Even the smallest gift can make a profound difference ... especially when given with love. Have you ever had one of those days where nothing seems to go to plan? I know I have. Even though you wake up with a smile and good intentions for the day, it seems that everything and everyone else around you is intent in ruining your equilibrium. When I have a day like that, I face each challenge by counting to 10. In those 10 seconds, I breathe in calmness, compose myself and say: 'It's okay!' Challenges are part of life's experience. 'Stuff' happens! Often, if we can't change anything, then it's best to change our response by just accepting what is and moving forward. Counting to 10 works for me ... and it's far better losing 10 seconds over 'stuff' than hours, days, weeks or a lifetime. Next time you're having one of those days, count to 10. See if it works for you too! Sponsor this blog: Try discovering the bargain basement hypnosis collection, The Hypnosis Vault - at www.hypnosis-vault.com Labels: inspiration, self-development
In my experience, the life you wish for just doesn't appear all on its own. You have to make it happen. You have to choose it. Some years ago, I decided that I wanted to be successful in business, as an author and as an individual. And I wanted to share my insights and inspire others. It's no coincidence that I'm enjoying (and continuing to achieve) the goals I set for myself. I set on my path and made it happen. I worked at it. And I followed my bliss. Joseph Campbell said: 'The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure.' And that's exactly it! I said YES to my adventure. Living the life you truly want is down to you making a choice! Choice is then followed by effort and action. Once you say YES to your adventure, you start living the life you truly want. You become the hero (or heroine) of your own story! So, are you going to say YES today? Don't think about it ... just do it! See what a difference you can make. Noel Edmonds caused a flurry of national hysteria when he launched his book "Positively Happy: Cosmic Ways to Change Your Life." The UK television presenter followed in the footsteps of Barbel Mohr, writing a guide on how to ask the "universe" for what you want. It sounds crazy. Especially because Edmonds also believes he's haunted by two melon-sized orbs, both somehow related to his parents. But there's a definite science behind the subject of cosmic ordering. It's not quite as quack-like as it might initially appear. There's one site I know that cuts through all the hype. It's called Advanced Cosmic Ordering. And if you've ever been inclined to discover cosmic ordering, I'd suggest this as you best resource. Check it out online: http://www.advancedcosmicordering.com/ I'm know you'll like it. It's smart. It's science-based. It gets real results. It doesn't have a Mr Blobby soundtrack however. But there are some crosses you just have to bear. Happy Monday! :) Labels: recommendations, self-development
It's a beautiful day, and I want to tell you something. You're absolutely amazing! Really you are - and, straight from my heart, I mean every word! You're amazing because you are YOU! You're incredible and unique. You have the ability to do incredible things in life. What's more, you have the potential to share your amazing gifts with others. As you go about your busy day, you might forget just how amazing you truly are. People may be jostling for your attention; your job may be taxing your mind so much that no other thought gets a look in; you may be feeling hassled; or feel the weight of the world is leaving you weary. But, just remember, you ARE amazing. The fact that you are here, doing what you do, being the individual that you are, is to be acknowledged and celebrated. And that's what I want to do today. I want to acknowledge and celebrate the amazing human-being that you are. And just in case no one has told you of late ... you're also beautiful and special too. Truly! So please ... accept these heartfelt words ... smile ... and have a wonderful day. You really do deserve it. Labels: inspiration
We seem to live in a time where we're constantly looking around us for the next fix ... ... something that will make life seem more meaningful and fulfilling... Usually that fix is something material. Perhaps a shiny new car or a stylish new designer wardrobe ... or the attainment of some achievement or goal. This is perfectly fine. Providing that we don't mistake materialistic or achievement gains for something that will heal our spirits and fix any emptiness in our lives. I can't help but quote from Joseph Campbell again ... He said: 'We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about.' Now Joseph really knew what he was talking about. He could see what potentially ailed a nation. You see, all the materialistic gains and achievement trophies mean absolutely nothing if your inner landscape ... your inner joy ... is devoid of zest for life. True happiness and fulfilment starts from within. Once you recognize that, everything else is simply a bonus. So, ask yourself ... what am I lacking inside? How do I really feel? And what can I do right now to connect with my inner joy? Look within - because that's where the answers reside. Labels: inspiration, quotes
How rich is your life? I'm talking in terms of experience here– not money. Are you challenging yourself to enjoy new and enriching experiences on a regular basis? Many people are quite content to live in the same place, do the same thing day after day and stick to the same routines week after week for the rest of their lives. And, you know, that's perfectly fine if they're happy with that. But, what if you're stuck in such a routine and you're unhappy? If that happens to be the case, it's time to make some life changing choices. Choose the type of experiences you wish to have and commit to making your life a little bit different every single day. Okay, breaking away from routine might seem a bit scary at first but, trust me, you'll find it liberating and exciting. When you go out and choose your experiences rather than letting life pass you by, you'll feel a greater sense of empowerment. Life will suddenly feel revitalized and bright because you're fully engaged in life and choosing experiences that are ultimately enriching. Of course, you don't have to give up all your routines. Some routine is good for you. I have routines that I stick with ... and that I'm happy with. It's all about changing the things that don't really make you happy or aren't really contributing to living a full and meaningful life. So, what's it going to be? Yes, you can sit in and watch imaginary soap operas unfold on TV or you can create your own amazing life story. You know something ... It really is your choice! Have a great day and choose wisely! Are we born to greatness? Or do we achieve greatness through sheer hard work and determination? When you look at the works and achievements of some of our greatest scientists, artists and writers, you can't help but ponder. I tend to believe that we all have gifts and it's what we do with these gifts that will determine our potential for greatness. People can achieve greatness and become cherished for the pleasure that their work gives and for the fact that what they give is from the heart. In my opinion, Beatrix Potter is one such person. For those of you not familiar with Miss Potter (which is also the title of the film starring Renne Zellweger), she became a best-selling children's author with her beautifully illustrated tales based on her animal friends. Through the early 1900s, Beatrix Potter wrote 23 books. Some of the most popular include The Tale of Peter Rabbit, The Tale of Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin. Though brought up comfortably in a middle class family, Beatrix had little social contact with other children and often disappeared into a world of her own creating animal stories. She had a strong interest for natural history and the land, and spent hours drawing wildlife. Fiercely independent, Beatrix shunned her parents' plans for her marriage and decided that she would make her own living writing books. Something that was unheard of at the time because of her gender. She did fall in love though but the man she hoped to spend her life with tragically died following a brief illness. Heartbroken, Beatrix moved to the Lake District. There, she purchased Hill Top Farm in Sawry where she lived for the rest of her life, devoting her time to wildlife and conservation of Lakeland farms. From the proceeds of her books, she was able to buy and save many working farms. Finally, when she died, she left over 4000 acres to the National Trust, a legacy which helped ensure the future of the Lake District. I'm sure you'll agree ... what an inspirational lady! And her books still sell by the thousands to this day! Labels: inspiration, ramblings
When it comes to manifesting, there's a LOT of hype out there. "Materialize your dream relationship in 72 hours!" ... "Manifest THIS house in 7 days" ... "Become a millionaire this month!" You see it every day in the self-development world. And it drives me insane! Everyone is a guru. Yet most can't even manifest a decent-looking webpage. It's hypocritical. To those, I say: "Physician, Heal Thyself!" Well, today, I'd like to set the record straight on manifesting. Yes, it's possible. I firmly believe that intention sets direction. And if you're looking for the absolute BEST way to go about it, without all of the hype and fluff you'll find elsewhere on the Web, check out this site: http://www.quantumcookbook.com/ No affiliate links there. It's just a quality course. And they'll give you $150 back if it doesn't work for you. You should know that I only recommend things on this blog that are of exceptional quality. I'd soon lose my subscribers if I didn't. So there's my recommendation for today. If you're interested in manifesting in YOUR life - check it out. Labels: recommendations, self-development
It never fails to raise a chuckle... ... When I'm out and about and I'm greeted with grumbles about the weather ... 'It's damn cold today!' or 'I'm sick of all this rain!' or, more rarely, 'This heat-wave is stifling ... it's far too hot', and so on. We British have a tendency to be obsessed with the weather. It's understandable of course – generally no two days are ever the same. Dry one day, rain the next. In fact, it has been known to have every conceivable type of weather over a 24 hour period ... yes, stillness, rain, wind, snow, sunshine, fog all in one day! The thing is, we can't change the weather and yet a lot of time is spent moaning about it – which is why it makes me chuckle. If we could just accept what we cannot change, then maybe we'd adopt a different outlook. We need the diversity of weather, which is one of the reasons why we have such green and pleasant countryside rather than deserts. And, of course, there is beauty in the elements. There's something revitalizing about being out in the rain, snow or a raging gale. And watching fog creep over the landscape and gazing at dramatic cloud formations stirs the imagination. No wonder we have so many great poets, writers and artists! I accept that we are a nation pre-occupied with the weather but next time you greet someone when you're out, celebrate the day with a cheery 'What a wonderful day!' ... even if it's raining heavy and clouded over. Okay, you may get an odd look in response ... but you may also create a smile and help someone see the abiding beauty of all weather. Always look on the bright side ... even if the sun isn't shining. Or, in the more elegant words of Dolly Parton: If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain. Enjoy! :) Labels: inspiration

No joke. Police in Nigeria recently reported that two thieves stole a car in Kwara State. As vigilantes cornered the two suspects, rather than get caught - one transformed himself into a goat. Yes. A goat. Read the full news story here. Of course, you'd think that someone with such amazing skills would put his talents to better use. Rather than spending time stealing Mazda's. But what do I know :) Which leads me on to my main point... How many of us simply IGNORE LOGIC? It never ceases to amaze me how many people relish in airy-fairy ideas without substance - rather than face the hard (and often beautiful) facts of reality. We take what is already great (life, relationships, happiness, spirit) - and attempt to bring meaning to it with mysticism (myths, rituals, magic, religion, superstition). To quote Douglas Adams... "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful - without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" Do you see the depth behind that quote? You might not know have realized, however - despite having such a deep interest in self-development - I am profoundly led by science. My previous blog posts attest that fact. For me, it's the only reliable method of getting results. What GREAT THINGS in your life - are YOU shrouding in nonsensical myth? What beliefs do YOU have - that simply don't stack up to science? What non-logical thoughts are currently holding YOU back in your life right now? Astrology. Religion. Homeopathy. Talented goats. To name just a few. They not only restrict us, but can actively damage our lives. By embracing a more logical approach, we become more open to reality - and understand of possibility. Sometimes we just need to sit back and appreciate the beauty of the garden alone. How can YOU do that more, today? Have a brilliant Thursday :) (PS. You should be following me on Twitter. "To quote oneself is the height of madness." - Karl Moore Okay, I swear that I'm not an ego-maniac. But recently, my friend Dr Mel Gill contacted me about a book he's finishing - called The Meta Secret (to tie in with his film of the same name). He asked if I'd provide a few quotations for the book - swiped from my own up-and-coming books. Well, I did - and today, I thought I'd share them with you. It's possible something here may stand out for you today. Enjoy - and have a great day! :) * * * “Self pity is the very worst emotion. Let go of self-pity and you will be happy.”
“Here’s the biggest self-development secret you’ll ever stumble across: Stop feeling sorry for yourself, and you will be happy. It doesn’t get any simpler.”
“You are not your emotions. Learn to let go of your emotions – as easily as you’d let go of a ball.”
“You are not your emotions. You can turn of negative emotions, just as easily as you’d switch off a light. Simply ask yourself the question – Can I let this go?”
“Nothing is either bad or good, but thinking makes it so.” - Shakespeare
“You are only what exists in this moment.”
“You don’t know when you’ve reached a peak until you’re coming down. And you don’t know when you’re in a trough until you’re climbing out. It’s all good. If you want the rainbow, you’ve got to put up with the rain.” - David Brent
“No self-development system will set you free. No religion will set you free. True freedom comes from inside. It comes from realizing there are no rules.”
“In life, we usually get the results we expect. By setting a good intention, we’ve already quadrupled the chance of a positive outcome. Quite simply, intention sets direction.”
“We each spend 95% of our time, either worrying about the past or fretting over the future. Stop it. True happiness can be found in the Now. Live in the Now more, and you will be happy.”
“By saying yes more to life we open ourselves up to its possibilities. We give ourselves to fate. If you want to live a happier, stress-free, more adventurous life, say yes more.”
“Everything changes. People die, kids grow up, companies shut down. Change is the only constant in this world. Get used to it, and find comfort in the fact that: even this shall pass.”
“You don’t need an epiphany to be self-developed. You don’t need to meditate daily, or give up your material goods. Don’t follow the spiritual sheep. Find your own freedom.”
“Sadness, negativity, death – these things are all part of life. Embrace them, because without them, there would be no opposite. Happiness, positivity, life.” Labels: inspiration, quotes, self-development
